A Window Bench in Cherry Wood
This study of a window bench was designed and built over the course of one semester in an elective furniture studio. The Biedermeier-inspired sculptural form accentuates the cherry wood grain with its opposing convex and concave curves. The spindle armrests were shaped with hand tools on a lathe and capped with delicate buttons on the face of each leg. Mortises and tenons join the structure and the wood is finished with four coats of Danish oil.
